Kurri Kurri Plumbing Services

Six kinds of work, each with its own page below. For the Lang Street shops and pubs there is plumbing for local businesses, and older roofs can take gutter guards fitted to suit.

A Town Plumbed in Galvanised Steel

The water services are older than most of their owners

Kurri Kurri went up to serve the South Maitland coalfields, and the cottage grid around Victoria Street and Boundary Street still runs on original galvanised steel water services. Plenty of that pipe has been rusting shut underground ever since.

The result shows up at the tap

When the shower weakens while the washing machine fills, the culprit is usually the corroded service under the front yard, not the fixture. Re-running it in modern pipe fixes the pressure for good.

The sewers have their own story

Earthenware sewers laid in the coal boom have had a century of reactive ground working their joints loose. At the last census the suburb counted 2,430 dwellings, nearly all of it pre-1980s stock, so the pipes under most homes are as old as the houses.

How Quotes Work Here

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours).

What moves the price is the job itself:

  • Access Squeezing under a low timber floor to reach a pipe takes longer than a swap in an open, modern laundry.
  • Pipe material Replacing a rusted steel service or a cracked clay sewer branch costs more than working with modern PVC, because the old stuff fights back.
  • Parts Cylinders, appliances and fittings are quoted at real prices, with options when a less costly fix does the job.
  • After-hours A night or weekend visit is priced differently, and you are told the rate before anyone drives over.

When we're not the right call: if the gas fault is at the meter or out in the street, the gas network repairs it. If the power trips when the heater runs, book an electrician, not us.

Your Call, Step by Step

  1. 1

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 3475 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

    On the tools

Water or gas is isolated, the old part comes out and the new one goes in, then it's tested and the mess cleaned up.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

Murals, Street Trees and the Drains Beneath

The trees this town celebrates are hard on its drains

Lang Street wears more than fifty murals, and the old gardens and street trees nearby push roots into century-old earthenware as soon as the dry months set in.

Storm season finishes the job

On a flat grid at low elevation, a downpour lingers, and a choked clay sewer pushes waste up through the yard gully. If the gully bubbles every time it pours, the line needs a camera, not a bucket.

What Customers Say

Plumbers were friendly, helpful, gave great advice. Very easy.
Cass
Communication was excellent, the quote was clear, and the work was completed promptly.
Lily
Not only all of that but the job came in right on quote.
Steve

That last one is the whole point of a fixed quote: the price you signed off on is the price on the invoice, not a surprise with a van in your driveway.

Questions People Ask Before They Ring

What does it cost to have you come out?

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). On site, the plumber looks over the job and prices it before the tools come out, and the invoice matches what you approved. Night and weekend visits are the exception, and you hear that rate on the phone first.

My old cottage has galvanised water pipes. Can you replace them?

Yes. Plenty of the pre-1940 cottages still take their water through galv pipe, corroding inwards for decades, which is why the pressure drops and the water discolours. We can re-run the line in modern pipe and quote it up front.

Can you clear a drain blocked by tree roots?

Yes. Street trees the town is proud of, plus long-established gardens, send roots into clay joints a century old. After the clear, a camera run shows the joint the roots used, and the footage decides between jetting, relining or digging.

Do you handle gas work as well as plumbing?

Yes. The team holds plumbing and gas fitting licences, so a new cooktop, a heater or a gas leak comes through the same number. When an old stove comes out, the legacy fittings behind it get brought to standard too.

What happens if my hot water dies on a weekend?

We are Available 24/7. Each winter the opening cold snap kills off a batch of old cylinders in the older streets, and a temporary tank can go in so the showers run hot until the replacement is fitted.

Which nearby towns do you also service?

Weston, Loxford, Heddon Greta, Pelaw Main and Stanford Merthyr, as well as the town itself. Each of those villages has its own page here with the local detail, and you can name your street when you ring.
